I'm happy to announce that once again starting today, and throughout the month of March, all donations to Caminos de Agua will be matched – up to USD $10,000. That means that for every dollar or peso you give this month, our loyal and generous sponsors – Chip and Lucy Swab and Bob and Peggy Krist – will double your gift, allowing you to Do Twice the Good.
The water crisis affecting the Upper Río Laja Aquifer – the main water source for more than 680,000 people in northern Guanajuato State, Mexico – continues to grow, affecting the health and economic welfare of the region’s residents; so, the need for our work continues to expand. To significantly increase our reach, we've continued to expand our spheres of collaboration – partnering with multiple stakeholders, from large foundations, corporations like Rotoplas, and municipal governments, to grassroots and community organizations, international NGOs, and academic institutions. However, there are no more important stakeholders in the fight against water scarcity and contamination than people like you, our base of supporters. Many of you are part of the community that has a direct stake in the water that we all share, consume, and have available.

A Look at What We've Built Together this Past Year

Starting in 2021, and continuing into the first quarter of 2022, has been the most impactful period in our organization’s history, and we're excited to share some of the highlights that you have helped create in this short time.

Community Implementation of Water Solutions
169 and counting new rainwater harvesting systems have been built - nearly tripling the impact we had in 2020. With new collaborations, we're looking to build upwards of 300 more in 2022.
~ 2,000,000 liters of clean water storage was created
31 Partner communities were impacted, as we worked together with them throughout the year to implement clean water solutions, despite the continuing pandemic
30 Dry toilets were brought online to better conserve limited water resources
32,000+ volunteer hours were provided by local community members to implement water solutions in 2021

5 Water Learning Community sessions, bringing together dozens of community members, from 4 different municipalities, to help build a new generation of community leaders

1 book published together with the INCA Network and the UNAM, illustrating the growing problem of Arsenic and Fluoride impacting the water supply of 10s of millions of people throughout Mexico.

Water Monitoring
66 communities received critical information on their water quality, across 20 well sites, through our Educational Water Monitoring Program in 2021
Know Your Water - expanding our private monitoring program through our “Know Your Water” program, and extending our knowledge base in urban San Miguel
Water Access Index - A new tool designed to help monitor water access and water scarcity conditions across communities

Technology Development
GTS Our first Groundwater Treatment System (GTS), which removes arsenic and fluoride on the community scale, goes online and fully operated by the community of Los Ricos
Aguadapt 2021 was all about the improvement of our award-winning water filter, by the end of 2022, we plan on having Agudapt providing clean water to thousands of people across the country
Arsenic Quantification together with researchers from the University of Liverpool and Imperial College London, we continue to develop a new low-cost, electrochemical method for arsenic detection – a potential game changer for arsenic detection around the world.
